The World Premiere of a new musical based on Wharton author Marilyn Sebesta's charming children's book Scout, The Dog Who Saved The Nutcracker, with delightful original music by Houston composer Suzanne Davis Marion. Susanna lives in a small town much like Wharton with her parents, her brother Charley and her best pal Scout, a lovable but clumsy chocolate-brown Labrador retriever. Scout joins Susanna and Charley and their friends in ballet class, getting ready for the town's first-ever production of The Nutcracker. Mice from the neighboring feed store invade the dress rehearsal looking for the Mouse King, and Scout's clever response earns her a starring role in the show.

A rare combination of unprecedented originality and blinding talent, The Drowsy Chaperone boldly addresses a great unspoken desire in all of our hearts: to be entertained. If you've ever sat in a dark theatre and thought, "Dear Lord in heaven, please let it be good," this is the show for you! It all begins when a die-hard musical-theater fan plays his favorite cast album on his turntable, and the musical literally bursts to life in his living room, telling the rambunctious tale of a brazen Broadway starlet trying to find, and keep, her true love.

What should I expect when I’m auditioning for a play?
Expect the unexpected. Currently you do not need to prepare a monologue. We will probably ask you to read from the script. Let the director know if you are interested in a specific role. Reading from the script gives us an idea of who you are as a person and if we would be able to cast in you in a specific role. We may have you read a variety of roles to get a better understanding of your capabilities as an actor.
What should I expect when I’m auditioning for a musical?
When auditioning for a musical expect the same scenario as audition for a play, but you will need to have a musical selection prepared. Accompaniment is not normally provided at auditions, so please bring an instrumental CD to sing along to or you can sing without accompaniment.
What should I sing?
Something that shows you off. We prefer show tunes and it doesn’t have to be from the show you are auditioning for. Pick something you like to sing, something you feel comfortable singing and - most important - something you can sing. If you find yourself having trouble reaching a note or two in a piece, you probably want to think about having it transposed or finding something else to sing.
