The Plaza Theatre hosted its first Character Breakfast in July 2012 as a way to raise seed money for a large-scale fundraising project in 2013. The breakfast was such a huge success that it has since become an annual event for the youth of our region.
The Character Breakfast gives families the opportunity to have breakfast, traditionally catered by Chick-Fil-A, and meet some of their favorite characters from popular children's movies and television series. The characters parade around the room, stopping at each table to briefly say "hello" and then are available for hugs, autographs, and photos.
Past characters have included Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Belle, Ariel, Princess Tiana, Hello Kitty, Leonardo the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, Dora the Explorer, Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Scout, and Elmo. 2017 will feature Poppy the Troll, Paw Patrol and Minions as added characters.
This event is held on the third Saturday of July each year at the Wharton Civic Center. Tickets traditionally go on sale in late spring or early summer. The Character Breakfast does have limited seating so we recommend that you get your tickets early in the event of a sell-out.
The next Character Breakfast is scheduled for Saturday, July 15, 2017.

We would not be able to hold the Character Breakfast without the generous sponsorships provided by area businesses and individuals. Sponsorships range from $100 to $500 and include tickets, recognition, advertising, and premium reserved tables. Auditions for the 2017 Character Breakfast will be held at 7:00pm at the Plaza Theatre on Tuesday, June 6, 2017. Interested individuals should come to auditions prepared to meet the director and determine if there is a complementing character. Comfortable clothes should be worn to auditions because individuals may be asked to perform some simple movements and dance steps. In addition to being available the entire morning of July 15th, all characters must be available the evening before the event for a dress rehearsal.

Q: I want to purchase tickets for my children, but do I need a ticket for myself?
A: Yes, each person needs a ticket to enter the event and to eat breakfast.
Q: Are the tickets the same price for adults and children?
Q: Can I reserve specific seats at the breakfast?
A: The only reserved seats are for the Gold Level ($500) sponsorships.
Q: What time do I need to arrive?
A: The doors open at 10:00am so there is no need to arrive early. The characters do not arrive until approximately 10:30am to allow everyone time to be seated and eat breakfast before the opening parade.
Q: Can I still get tickets after sales have closed?
A: No. Because we have to turn in headcounts for the caterers, tickets cannot be sold after sales close.
Q: Can I take photos with my own camera?
A: Yes! We do not have professional photographers at this event and we want to you take as many photos as you like.
Q: Can I get autographs from the characters?
A: Yes and autograph books are available for $5.00.
Q: Will I be able to purchase souvenirs?
A: Yes, large autographed mylar balloons of the characters are available for purchase for $10.00
Q: Are the characters available for other events such as community fundraisers and birthday parties?
A: No, the characters are strickly reserved for the Character Breakfast and promotions appearances leading up to the event.
